"Small enough to care, big enough to count"
Students at Humberston Academy were today celebrating another set of impressive GCSE results.
The academy, which is committed to excellence for all, has maintained its strong academic performance as two thirds of students achieved five A*- C grades including English and maths – which is significantly above the national average. In addition, the number of students achieving the English Baccalaureate nearly doubled to 42%, a measure that shows performance in key academic subjects. The results show that more students are achieving top grades in the traditionally harder subjects.
In addition, when looking at the new government measures called Progress 8, which show if a student has performed above what the Government would expect as normal, it shows that Humberston students are exceeding and excelling. Students and staff continue to build on last year's achievements and there have been many success stories not only here today but throughout the year.
Wendy Marshall, Chief Executive of the David Ross Education Trust, said: “Students at Humberston should be pleased with today’s results, they are showcasing amazing success not only academically but on the sports field and in other areas too. “I am pleased that the academy continues to shine, and that Humberston can rightly say it is amongst the best in the area. It provides young people with fantastic opportunities to succeed.”
We are an outstanding Academy and proud of our exceptionally high standards. But it is not all about academic achievement. We are a growing oversubscribed, hard-working Academy, with a positive, business-like and purposeful atmosphere where students can develop and broaden their horizons.
Humberston also offers:
- Outstanding behaviour
- An ethos of mutual respect and love of learning
- Outstanding teaching and learning
- A small, caring environment
- Every student is treated as individual
- Broadening horizons by being part of the David Ross Educational Trust, which provides the students with exceptional sporting and cultural opportunities.
At Humberston we are proud to be a leading education provider in our local community. We seek to broaden the horizons of each and every one of our students helping them to achieve at the highest level both academically and within their talents outside the classroom, upholding our vision of Excellence for All.
We understand that every student needs a strong academic foundation in order to achieve their full potential. At our Academy we combine an innovative curriculum with a strong house structure which ensures that students receive all the support and guidance they need to succeed.
At Humberston the values of respect and good behaviour are instilled from the outset and a high attendance is a priority ensuring that students leave the Academy as young people that the whole community can be proud of, is a crucial part of our educational offer.
Over the last few years Humberston Academy has continued to strengthen and develop but we do not rest on our previous successes. We are pround of the significant investment that has been made in our buildings and environment and the impact that this is having on our students.
The Academy, a member of the David Ross Education Trust, became the first in North East Lincolnshire to be designated “outstanding” last year under Ofsted’s stricter guidelines.
Our focus is on first class teaching and recruiting outstanding practitioners. Quality teachers are the people who inspire our students to great things.
