Grimsby’s Humberston Academy takes home gold in U13 Hockey league
Students at Grimsby’s Humberston Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, were thrilled to get their hands on their first piece of silverware after competing in the U13 North East Lincolnshire central venue hockey league.
After playing six matches against a number of local schools, Humberston Academy finished unbeaten as they scored 14 goals and conceded one. Following their success, the squad of thirteen boys will now head into the ‘In2Hockey’ Humber County Round on 25 January 2018.
The first week of the tournament saw Humberston Academy win 1-0 against Oasis Wintringham. The team also celebrated a 3-0 win against Healing C’s team, with Humberston’s Daniel Stanley showing good composure to finish two well-deserved team goals.
Heading into week two, Humberston was the team to beat as they secured a 4-0 win against Ormiston. Continuing their winning streak, Humberston marched on as they brushed aside Oasis B’s and Healing B’s with two 2-0 wins, where Bradley Knights skilfully drove the ball down to the right before crossing for Elliot Adlard to finish easily at the back post.
In the final week of competition, Humberston faced their toughest competition yet as they landed a 2-1 win against Healing A’s. Humberston’s Daniel Stanley was once again lethal as he drew the eye of opposition coaches and match umpire Brad Flinders; an up-coming midfielder for Grimsby Hockey Club 1st Team.
Sam Houlden, Captain of the U13 Hockey Team, said: “We are all so proud of this achievement and I am thrilled for the my team mates, they have all done an incredible job on the pitch.”
Dan Shoubridge, Associate Principal at Humberston Academy, said: “At Humberston Academy, we are committed to providing our students with a range of incredible experiences, allowing them to discover their talents and reach their sporting potential.
