North East Lincolnshire’s Humberston Academy celebrates at Golden Apple Awards
A teacher at North East Lincolnshire’s ‘outstanding’ Humberston Academy, part of the David Ross Education Trust, has been named Teacher of the Year at the Grimsby & Scunthorpe’s TelegraphGolden Apple Awards 2018.
Mr Jack Williamson, Academy Improvement Lead at Humberston Academy, earned the prestigious title after being labelled as ‘an inspiration’ by his colleagues and students.
During his time at Humberston Academy, Mr Williamson has worked tirelessly to provide excellent outcomes and opportunities and delivers engaging and passionate lessons daily.
A group for Year 11 students from Humberston Academy, representing the Joe Catley Memorial Group, were also finalists for the Star Student Award. In an emotional display of unity for former pupil Joe Catley, who sadly lost his battle with cancer in 2016, the student ambassadors have raised over £15,000 for the Teenage Cancer Trust, and a further £3,000 to establish a memorial garden at the school.
Miss Inma Pena, Vice Principal at Humberston Academy, was also up for the Award for Innovation. Last year, Miss Pena created a quality assurance process to measure the quality of teaching. As a result, the academy has been named the Top Performing School in North East Lincolnshire for the second year running.
Dan Shoubridge, Principal at Humberston Academy, said: “I am absolutely delighted that Humberston Academy has retained the regional ‘Teacher of the Year Award’. Mr Williamson is an inspirational teacher and leader within our academy and he wholeheartedly deserves this award.
“He consistently goes the extra mile to ensure that our school delivers an outstanding education and provide students with the support and guidance they deserve to reach their academic potential and become model members within our local community.
“At Humberston Academy, we are incredibly proud of all shortlisted colleagues and students. This incredible achievement gives further evidence of the amazing opportunities we provide.”
